Safe, affordable housing is beyond the reach of many people in Haywood County. I’ve spent the last eight months researching this issue and have identified practical ways to create more housing options for working families, young adults, and first-time homebuyers.
Preserving Haywood’s Rural Character
Agriculture is an important part of Haywood County’s history, economy and identity. As development increases, we can protect working farmland by purchasing development rights, and leaving fertile soils to feed our county and nation for years to come. A citizen group is creating a private, tax-deductible fund to cover the costs.
Economic Development
Haywood County needs an economy that works for local people. Supporting existing businesses, encouraging entrepreneurs, and attracting good-paying jobs can create more opportunities while helping our communities grow. There are hundreds of people in our midst or with ties to our communities who have worked in fields that would thrive here. Let’s harness their experience, connections and ideas to work toward a common goal.
Youth & Families
Young people and families are an important part of Haywood County’s future. Children need places to learn, play and grow, while families need opportunities that allow them to build a multi-generational future here.
