A strong local economy gives people more choices. It can provide better jobs, support local businesses, strengthen the tax base, and create opportunities for people who want to build their future in Haywood County.

Economic development is often associated with bringing new businesses or industries into a community. That is one part of the picture, but it is not the whole picture.

Haywood County is also home to many small businesses and entrepreneurs. Helping existing businesses grow can create jobs without requiring every new opportunity to come from outside the county.

Local economic development can include supporting entrepreneurs, helping small businesses expand, attracting new employers, developing job-training opportunities, and making good use of existing buildings and infrastructure.

Haywood County already works with municipalities and community partners on economic development, including the Chamber of Commerce, tourism organizations, and regional economic development groups.

The goal is not simply to create more jobs. It is to create opportunities that fit Haywood County and provide a path for people to earn a living, start businesses, and remain part of the community.
